The relatively unknown Pingyao International Photography Festival is held each September in the ancient Ming Dynasty walled city of Pingyao in central China's Shanxi province. Attracting photographers from across the globe it is also a showcase for much of the contemporary talent emerging in China. This exciting mix all happens in the stunning historic city of Pingyao, one of China's few intact walled cities. The contrast between the ancient buildings and cutting edge photography exhibitions makes this festival unique. Locations such as disued factories and working temples are used for the exhibitions which are spread out across the city.
