China is such a vast country containing so many different climatic zones that there is generally no bad time to visit the country although this does depend on where your trip will be focused.
However, as a general rule, April and May and September and October are the best months and peak times for local tourism.

Of course, the best months are also the busiest and it often pays to travel either side of the busiest periods when the crowds are fewer and the weather still has a good chance of being reasonable.
