China Destination Guide - Yangshuo 阳朔县

Not so many years back Yangshuo was a sleepy fishing village in the countryside outside of Guilin. Nowadays, although retaining much of it's charm, it is most firmly on the top 10 list of places to visit in China. Yangshuo is usually reached by the scenically stunning cruise down the Li River. The surrounding limestone karst scenery is as breathtaking as the life along the river banks is fascinating. Yangshuo is the perfect place to take all of this in with it's relaxed atmosphere and easy access to the surrounding countryside by foot, boat or bicycle.

TCTC Tip: We offer some lovely boutique style hotels outside of Yangshuo itself - ask us for details.

small square  What there is to see in Yangshuo:

  • Li River Cruises are one of the top draws and an ideal way to get from your arrival in the city of Guilin down to Yangshuo.
  • Once in Yangshuo you will find yourself torn between exploring the local area by boat, bicycle or on foot and spending time in relaxing bars and restaurants swapping stories about the rest of your China travels. Yangshuo is one of these rare places in China that has more of a laid back South East Asian flavour - a perfect rest stop before continuing your China journey.
  • Popular side trips are the rice terraces at Longji, bamboo rafting down the Yulong River or hiking up to Moon Hill.
  • The Yangshuo Liu SanJie Impressions light show utilising 600 dancers and using the mountains as a backdrop is not to be missed. Directed by Zhang Yimou, one of China's most famous directors and the man who created the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics.

To relax in beautiful surroundings. As far as China goes life doesn't get any more relaxed or easy than Yangshuo. We recommend hiring a bicycle to see the countryside at your own pace as well as taking in the breathtaking light show.
