China Destination Guide - Wulingyuan

Wulingyuan is a collection of 243 peaks surrounded by over 3000 karst upthrusts, a concentration not seen anywhere elsewhere in the world. Inspiring Chinese painters and poets for centuries in 1990 it was recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. To add to the scenic splendour is a bounty of rare flora and fauna, raftable rivers, Asia's largest cave system and the area is also home to 3 ethnic minorities, the Tujia, Miao and Bai.

What there is to see...

Huangshi village is situated atop of one of the peaks and takes a climb of 3,878 steps to reach (or you can take a cable car!)
Hiking along the numerous well-maintained trails the park offers is one of the best ways to appreciate the ever changing scenery.
Tianzi peak is the regions highest at 1,250m and is worth the climb for the views over this extraordinary landscape.
If climbing up isn't for you climbing down into Jiutian cave might be. It is Asia's largest cave chamber. More easily accesible is Shuanghe cave featuring a series of limestone caverns interconnected by a subterranean river.
