China Destination Guide -  Lu Shan

Lushan is another favourite mountain to visit, both in the ancient past and more recently by the British who built a hill station here and some of that colonial architecture can still be seen. It was here during 1946 the U.S. special envoy General George C. Marshall met with the Nationalist Chiang Kia-Shek to discuss the role of post-WWII China. Not to be outdone, it has since become a favoured retreat for Communist Party officials.

  • The Grand Heavenly Pool is a lake where Tianchi Temple is located.
  • The dilapidated colonial style Meilu Villa was once used as a residence by Chairman Mao and was originally built by in 1903 by Britain's Lord Lannoze.
  • The Dragonhead Cliff is one of the high points offering great views on a clear day.
  • The Yellow Dragon Pool and Black Dragon Pool both have stories about dragons associated with them due to their depth and colour.

small square  Best time to visit Lu Shan

March, April and May and September, October and November are the best months. Summers can be wet but the temperature is fine and winters can be cold with snow and ice but lovely mists that give the mountain a magical air.
