China Destination Guide - Lijiang

Lijiang is a stunning old UNESCO World Heritage recognised city of cobbled streets and tiled roofs set against the magnificent backdrop of the 5,596m thirteen peaked Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. All this wrapped up in destination means Lijiang is crowded with visitors year round but it still has what it takes with quiet streets off the main tourist paths and continues to be an unmissable part of any Yunnan itinerary.

small square  What there is to see...

  • Early morning and late evening wanderings around town soaking up the atmosphere is what Lijiang is all about.
  • Black Dragon Pool Park's view of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is one of South Western China's kodak moments.
  • Five Phoenix Hall is a Ming dynasty structure edifice dating from 1601. Its three roofs with eight eaves each are in the shape of phoenixes. It was moved to it's present location in 1979.
  • If you need a break from the crowded streets the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is the place to go with a magnificent cable car ride up to a high plateau.

small square  Our last word on Lijiang

A very popular destination and deservedly so but despite this popularity you can still find untouched parts of the Old Town as well as quieter spots in the surrounding countryside.
