China Destination Guide - Jiuzhaigou 九寨沟

Jiuzhaigou, meaning Nine Village Gully refers to the nine Baima Tibetan villages that can be found in the valley. This is one of China's scenic gems tucked away in the mountains of Sichuan. The forests are lush, the mountains high and the water not only crystal clear but in many places a very attractive light blue colour. What there is to see at Jiuzhaigou:

Jiuzhaigou is deservedly popular and can get very busy especially with local tourists. There is an efficient hop on and off bus network through the park making it easy to see all that is on offer in a day. However, if you walk between drop off points it is almost possible to feel you have the place for yourself. Unfortunately, overnight stays in the park are not allowed.

Best time to visit Jiuzhaigou

April and May as well as September and October are the best months but the summer is also good. Winter can be difficult due to heavy snows but the valley can look stunning at this time.

Best reason to visit Jiuzhaigou

The combination of beautiful scenery and ease of moving around the park make Jiuzhaigou a great outdoors option regardless of the physical ability.

Well worth the time and expense to get here Jiuzhaigou should be considered as an add-on to any trip that also visits the provincial capital of Chengdu. Almost always booked in conjunction with Huanglong.
